After reassembling my Berlin classic I put the partition that goes in the smaller tube up top rather than down bottom like I normally do. After looking at the skimmer I noticed instead of having a straight column of bubbles now I have a tornado going on in my skimmer. Have I had this upside down the whole time ? Where should this flat peice of plastic go, top or bottom ?

Snoopydog, I noticed you have yellow tangs and purple together. Did you put them in at the same time? I had a purple in a 200 and added 6 yellow tangs, and he constantly changed all 6 yellows. I was told before yellows and purples are not compatible.

Funny you should mention that, I am scared someone is going to slam me because I have them mixed and so many. Well, here is the story of how I have so many. I have had the original purple for 4 months. I went and purchased the smallest of the yellows, had to go back to work. Came home and he was tore up bad ! The purple had him in the corner spearing him with the barb on his tail ! The yellow had lacerations up and down his side. He did not look like he was going to make it. I panicked and did something I probably should not do. I went and bought two huge Yellow Tang's from the same place. He also tore them up some but they were larger and intimidating. They managed to keep him off the smaller one that stayed in the corner still. The cuts healed and they are all fine now. I only forgot one thing, the load on the tank !! My nitrates jumped farely high, but are going down !

Anybody know which side up the cover on the collection cup should be facing? I have the side with the big concave piece facing down. Is this right or wrong? I think I mentioned the low skimmer output problem already... the output is VERY dense and recently choked up the inside tube, deposited there rather than go into the cup. ------------------ Cheers, Rob |

The cupped part should be facing down. The bubbles shoudl cup up the tube and hit the top. Since the top is cupped it helps the bubbles go over into the collection cup. In other words if you had it upside down, you could put water on it and it would hold it !

Thanks, Snoopdog! That makes sense, but I wasn't sure.
I'm curious, how much output you get, what pump, setting on the aur hose restrictor screw (mine is full open). ------------------ Cheers, Rob |

A half a cup a week with a Mag 7. Mine is a 75 gallon tank. Air is wide open.

The little divider should be down. Having the "seaclone" effect will minize contact time, and bubble density. I don't know if anyone posted that yet....if they did, just ignore me. I tried both ways on the 55. Output is far better with it down.

I am really happy with mine, produces some major dark funk ! Smelliest stinking stuff I have ever smelled, pretty nasty, I think I would rather change a diaper than clean my skimmer .
