I was wondering who likes the new power sweep for surface motion?

I didn't like mine at all. It was noisy and didn't rotate very well and eventually didn't rotate at all. I took it apart and cleaned it and then it worked again, but still was noisy. I was using it with the sponge. I haven't used it since.

Some people who have used it cursed the product because it gets stuck after a few days/weeks of using it. The manufacturer have eventually corrected the problem, so the new powersweeps in the market shouldn't have this kind of prob... (hope so).
Another member of this board, Isaax, uses Powersweep and never had a problem with it. Have you considered getting a sea swirl? Gia |

For a small tank I like them. I have one in my 10g and it got stuck when I first started using it. Since then it hasn't given me a problem.

I love mine. I have the powersweep 280 on a 55 gallon.
You guys know that it has a adjuster on the side for more thrust. |

I use a 214 in a 20 gal and haven't had any real problems other than you need to clean it once a month.
Failure to regularly clean it... means it will stop working. I am considering one of the larger ones for my 60 gal. Maybe when they go on sale again at the LFS. |

I like mine also. Granted, sometimes it does need to be takem apart and cleaned, but truely, what doesnt in our tanks?I clean mine when i feel it needs it at the same times that I would clean my skimmer and various other stationary items in my sump/filter?

Am looking into options other than my small surface nozzles, to return water from the sump. Scott Reefland mentioned a "Sea Swirl" recently, and now I see it again here.
Can anyone comment on this device, experience with it? And where is it sold? Any links to manufacturers or distributors? Thanks! ------------------ Cheers, Rob |

The Sea-Swirl and PowerSweep are different devices. The PowerSweep is a powerhead from ZooMed that uses some small plastic gears and a paddle to move the end of the powerhead 90 degrees, back and forth. The Sea-Swirl on the other hand is for a return line from a pump and hangs on the tank rim. You can learn more on the sea-swirls at http://www.sea-swirl.com

Rob,
If you use a sea-swirl you may no longer need ugly PHs and a wavemaker, the devise will take care of the circulation. Gia |

I bought three. They suck. They are fairly efficient water heaters, but don't move water very much and get stuck. The one with corraline algae all over it works the best. I was able to get one to work well enough to mix salt water in a trashcan at work; I figure it is useful for this since it is so good at heating the water. I think they also make good cat toys when suspended from a low branch via the power cord. Apart from that, a waste of money.

In order to make these Ph's function better, I took out the l dremel tool and enlarged the intake hole right underneeth the impeller. I took of the flow control knob and used some "D" shaped weather-stripping to plug up the slot. I have two like this, I have yet to have a problem with either stopping or even sludging down a bit. This also increases the flow rating. Check out the mod on my Web Site...
