I hang mine from the ceiling with the lamp hooks. The light and pendant don't weigh very much. The ballast is what is heavy. Are you going to use the pfo hood that hangs perpendicular to the tank?

Cool Hanging Pendants

I am thinking about hanging a PFO MH/VHO pendant from the ceiling using either heavy plant hooks or the hanging lamp type hooks. I am not sure how much the MH light weighs. It looks like around 30+lbs shipping but some of that would be the ballast. How did you hang yours (if you have a pendant). My tank is up against a wall but I am reluctant to mount it off of the wall.

Cool

Thanks for the reply. I need to go with a long horizontal pendant or 2 smaller (12") ones. I have the brace in the middle of the tank problem and I also want to use VHO supplement.

I use the ones that hang perpendicular to the tank. I have one on each side of the center brace. My tank is 5 feet long and I get great light distribution. I have 2 five foot vho acitincs. What I did was build a canopy for the vho's and left the center part open for the MH's. What i like about this setup is you can raise or lower your MH's for acclimating new corals.

Cool

Jeff, do you have 1 small hood for each VHO? How wide? I may have to go the same route.

Here is a pic of what I did. I have 4 inch boards in the front and the back. You could use 2 inch depending on how wide your tank is.

Cool

Thanks Jeff, that'll work. I am going to try to keep the top of the tank clear this time. I am tired of having to clean the lens of lights every few days. That is why I want to get something up in the air. That means I have to get the VHOs up there too.
