I've just acquired a 2 1/4" and a 1 3/8" diamond drill bits for cutting glass. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what bulkheads I could fit in these size holes? I am only familiar with Rainbow bulkheads. I believe the 3/4" bulkhead needs a 1 1/2" hole and the 1" bulkhead needs a 1 3/4" hole. I don't know what Rainbow bulkhead will fit in a 2 1/4" hole?
Are there any other bulkhead manufacturers that you know of that might have different hole requirements? I'd love to find one that allowed a 3/4" bulkhead to fit the 1 3/8" hole and maybe a 1 1/2" bulkhead (or larger) to fit the 2 1/4" hole. Thanks! If you can point me to a web site that shows a bulkhead and it's hole size requirement I would appreciate it. I keep searching (obviously not the right places), but very few websites tell me what hole size is needed for a specific bulkhead. Scott |

Scott,
A one inch bulkhead requires a 1 5/8" hole while a 1 1/2" bulkhead requires a 2 3/8" hole. Judging by these sizes I would guess that you have the bits for 3/4" bulkhead and a 1 1/4" bulkhead. Check out any local Pool and Spa store and they should carry almost any size bulkhead, same quality as the Rainbow but half the price. Remember it is always better to think done the road when choosing bulkhead sizes, the 3/4" is smaller than most larger GPH pumps, you could always use the 1 1/4" bulkhead with a 1" or 3/4" adapter. hey Scott,
I don't know what size bulhead matches up to what you have. I do know that there are multiple types and quality of bulkheads. the basic slip/slip bulkheads in a 1" size do require a 1.75" hole. But there are also heavy duty grey PVC threaded/threaded bulkheads that are larger diameter. Basically there are set sizes for individual manufacturers and bulkheads. Best way to size would be a trip to a local sprinkler, pool/spa, or Home Depot and check on the instock bulkheads. Good luck in your search! Doug ------------------ "Wait a minute. Scott/Doug - thanks for the replies. I've gone to both HD and a pool supply place. HD doesn't carry any bulkheads that I could find (Lowes either). And the pool place called a bulkhead something different than I do. The closest thing they had was called a 'return' for a pool. Looks very similar to what we call a bulkhead, but too large. So far, I am not having much luck finding bulkheads other than Rainbow on the web. Even if I can find a supplier without specs I can call and find out hole requirments. Oh well, I'll keep looking. Thx.

Scott,
The pool and spa place called them something different when I got them also, mine were called "hot tub jet returns with threaded eyelets". Scott |

If all else fails you can order them from US Plastics or one of the online stores like marine depot. They don't normally tell you what size drill hole they need, but they are atleast available.
I have the same problem finding them local. The sprinkler shop here has the high quality ones, but the price is prohibative. I usually wiat until my local wharehouse type store gets them in stock and stock up on a few. Doug ------------------ "Wait a minute.
