Question Tank Painting

OK,

I just finished painting the back of my 110 with three coats (brushed) of latex flat black paint. When I removed the masking tape the entire paint job pulled off in one big sheet(sort of). My tank is sitting on the living room floor so spraying it is out of the question and I ain't big enough to move it into the garage. Going to have to round up a crew just to put it on the stand.

What's the trick to getting it painted???????

Joe

The trick is don't paint it at all. try Rubbermaid shelf liner. Presses on easily and peels off for cleaning. Once it tis applied it doesn't come off.

I've had lots of luck with spray paint.... others with rolling. It can be done. As fer the shelf/contact paper, does it come in black? I'd be willing to give that a try.

I bought a large sheet of acrylic, painted it, and used small velcro strips and stuck it to the back. Can't tell.

They make solid color backgrounds that are applied to the tank like window tint that is used on cars. It is very easy to apply and durable. I used to spray all of my tanks. This is a much better way to go!

Thumbs up

I used a latex enamel ,3 coats , let dry 24 hours then apllied 2 coats varethane clear coat (waterproof)
a sudjestion to repair you problem, just repaint area that ripped off makeing sure to brush up under area that remained
just look at it from the front each time to see what you missed. give the varethane a try !

I went to a craft store and bought a large tube of flat black Toll Paint at $11. Its the stuff that people use to do arts and crafts on glass. Didnt chip, flake or anything like that. I had some paint bleed under my tape job and spent 15 minutes trying to scrape the stuff off with a razor. I'll tell you, it WONT come off, and dries totally in an hour.
