1/2 the time they don't ocilate. The ppl i know who have them always complain. They need alot of pressure to get them to run right I would think.

They work great. 3 or 4 times a year, you would have to clean it or maybe reset it if it stops oscillating but for the price, I don't mine the little extra work.

I purchased 2 Ocean currents a few months ago and returned them the next day! I wanted them on my return line...but I thought they rotated like a top...spinning way too fast. I had a pump that was a little too large for it, but even a smaller pump would rotate it fast. It also made my Iwaki 40 RXLT flow reduce to nothing. I could barely feel any output yet it was rotating very fast. Another great concept....but I would go with sea swirls...I have heard great things about them. If you have an acrylic tank...check out my DIY page and see how I put 2 MAG pumps on top of my tank for water movement and simulated tidal movement. HTH

just a note, these come in i think 8 different models from spinning in full 360 turns to i think 110 degree left and right, so i think myreef actually purchased th eone that just spins completely around...i am contemplating getting one of the ones that just goes 110...

Nope...I purchased the one that rotates 110 degrees. What actually happens is that it spins in 360 degrees, but only has a place for the water to come out 110 degrees. I even emailed Ocean Currents...Regardless the output on my Iwaki was nothing compared to what it should be.

Myreef – I’m still not sure which model you purchase but it seem like you got the rotating pulser.
As for the Ocean Currents Oscillator, it has a 100-degree back and forth sweep motion. I have it hood up to my 3MDQ Little giant pump and it work great with out losing too much flow. Actually, I had to split the flow to another outlet because the oscillator created too much current at one end of the aquarium. |

OK, I know which one I ordered.... Maybe they gave me the wrong one in the boxes. I actually bought two, and both did the same thing. I supposedly bought the oscillator.
Nartman--- You mean to tell me that yours actually moves left, stops then moves back to the right similar to the powersweep PH? ------------------ My Reef Calcium Reactors myreef@aol.com [This message has been edited by myreef (edited 03-28-2001).] |
