Cool Set up an Ecosystem in a CPR 12" refugium!

    Hi Everyone,
I set up an Ecosystem with the mud in a CPR 12" hang-on refugium.

I have been using Ecosystem's reef solution a week prior to that.

I have notice phenominal polyps extension in all my corals.

My chili coral explodes with nice orange polyps at night.

All corals have their polyps out during the day and many of them continually have them out during the night.

I have had the ecosystem up for 2 weeks and have been using their reefsolution for 1 month.

If you want to save money I would suggest using CPR hang on refugium or adding their mud to your sump.

I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.

    Rob

    Coralsandbar,

I have been running a sump based EcoSystem since the end of May last year. So Far I am very pleased.

I have also heard good things about the reef solution product, and I usually take dim view of these types of product.

Please keep us up to date.

    Regards,

    Scott

    Cool

    Hi Scott,

Will do... Mike Paletta raved about it at the Garf seminar 2 years ago. He was very impressed and Seng Ly's tank. He said it was the most incredible system he had ever seen. (This was before he endorsed the product).

The reef solution is awesome. You still have to add calcium and alkalinity supplements if you use the reefsolution.

I look at it this way. Your getting all your other supplments in one bottle. It may look like more money but it keeps you from buying bottles off all the components.

    I'll keep everyone update.

    Talk to you guys later,

    Rob

I've been thinking about using their mud for the sump too.

I'm planing to have 4-6" HD sand in the main tank, and maybe 2-3" the mud in the sump. What do you think?

    it's a 125G tank and 50g diy sump.

    Jasonchi,

The mud should only be 1” deep. As opposed to aragonite DSB’s, deeper is not better.

I am also using a 6” DSB in the main tank.

    RhondaJ32,

Here is the URL for the reef solutions/EcoSystem products: http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/

    Cool

    Hi Jasonchi,

I think as long as you top of the top of your HD sand or whatever sand you use 1" should be plenty.

    Rob

I have a 12" aquafuge on my 29 gallon with the ecosystems miracle mud. I read about the 1" after I set it all up. I have about 2" in the aquafuge. Macros grow like crazy in there. I have a detrivore kit, live rock and macros. I am convinced the aquafuge prevented a widespread outbreak of cyano in my tank. The main tank got some cyano at one point. I was diligent in siphoning and netting it out. Then all of a sudden it was gone and was starting in the refugium. Now it is no longer in the main tank and very faint in the aquafuge. All is great and I think I have the aquafuge to thank for it, probably the miracle mud plays a big role, but I can't be certain.
