Cool ANyone have a Red Sea Prizm?

Need the exact dimensions for a possible micro-reef. This is for a fellow hobbyist who isn't on the internet.

Can you tell me exactly how it works... for example where does the water come in and go out, does it hang on the back OK, how much space is needed?

Are there any issues? Noise level? Would you buy it again, if you could go back in time and start again?

    Thanks!

    Hi Rob,

I just (last week) setup a 12 gallon flatback hex from clear for lifr. (I got the one withpout all the filtration on the back. Takes up too much room) My only filtration is a 3 inch DSB, live rock and the prism. It has an input tube that extends into the tank by about 5-6 inches, and sucks water up over the top of the tank into the prism via a 12 blade turbo impeller. Water comes back out the otherside via a flat open channel kind of like a waterfall into the tank. You adjust the flow using a knob on the input tube. It only really needs like 2 inches behind the tank, but I felt that made the input tube stick too far into the tank so I slid it back so the input and output are right at the back of the tank, not 3-4 inches inside it. A piece of sponge or wood will hold the skimmer there. (between the outside back of the tank and the skimmer wall.)
It seems to be doing a good job. It is a bit noisier than my bakpak2 but I hear the noise gets less, and as long as it's not in your bedroom I wouldn't worry about it. If it was I might go with something else, or turn the flow down during the night. I say go ahead and get it. seems like a good product so far. I got it for $69 + shipping from a store in Orlando. Seven-Seas Aquatics or something like that. send me an e-mail if you want and I'll give you the guys e-mail address. This was the cheapest price I could find.

    Good luck

    Hello,

I also have recently put a prizm on the same tank djheywood is talking about, a 12G flat back hex. I think the lil skimmer is doing a great job, pulls out a lot of gunk. It is a little noisy though, but I hear that the noise goes down over time.

    Cool

    Thanks, DJ,

    I have two quick questions...
[*] if you're standing in the back of the aquarium facing the skimmer as it's hanging there, is the intake of the skimmer on your right and the output on the left, or vice-versa? This is important... the configuration is unclear, and I can't get through to the manufacturer on the phone to get an answer...
[*] Do you know the exact dimensions, height and width? This micro-reef is a bit short, and I want to make sure that there is enough room in back, and enough horizontal room for it to hang on!

    Thanks!

I have one on my 25 gallon right now curing some LR from Jeff's. The noise WILL die down and no more humming and that sort. Great skimmer for around $65, and much cheaper than the BakPak series from CPR.

In my opinion a little bit sensitive. The knob to control water flow must be turned down at first, then adjusted as the skimmer matures.

    Regards,
    Ilham

I'm at work so I can't give you the exact dimensions but if you are behind the tank looking at the back of the skimmer the intake tube is on the right, the outflow is on the left.

If I had to guess I would say the skimmer hangs down about 6-8 inches below the lip of the tank. send me an e-mail and I will respond tonight with the exact dimensions

It hangs down 8.5 inches from the top of the tank to the bottom of the skimmer, and needs a minimum of around 2.75 inches depth behind the tank.

    Rob,
The pump is on your right and the outlet is on your left. Looking from the back of the tank as it is hanging there. HTH.

Hey guys, I am looking to get one of those clear for life 12 GA hex's without the skimmer and stuff. Where are you getting them and how much, website? Also what are the exact dim. of this tank. I have seen a TruVu 10GA hex which measures
    22in. W X 10 in. deep X 12 in. high.
    Thanks

That's the tank I just setup. I got it from a LFS here in LA for $99 but it was basically free because I kept bringing in Xenia frags and getting $15 a piece for them. It only took me about a month to 'grow' this tank.

My tank is 20" wide, 10" deep, and 14" tall (Not including the canopy that comes with it. Definitely don't get the one with all the filtration in the back, waste of precious soace. I just have live rock, live sand, and the prism, as well as 2 X 28 watt hamilton PC's on the tank. I'm happy so far, I'll try to post some pics soon.

Hey Dj - I just came back from my LFS and they are putting a call into truvu for me to see if I can get the same tank but 4 in. deeper. 22w X 14d X 14h not including base and canopy. I also was planning AHsupply's 2x36 watt pcs. How's the heat issue with your lights? did you mount directly to plexi canopy? ANy concerns with melting? I hoping I can get this sp. order tank which will give me alittle more room to work with(aquascape) and more water volume. I am thinking it would bring me up to about 14GA.,s or so.
