I am using a rio powerhead with an ultra life float switch. I have a spare mag 250 would it work better you think?

What kind of pump are you using to feed the reactor from the holding tank? How is the pump controlled?Originally posted by mrok12
It had one flaw it back s iphones the reactor water intop the holding tank. It is likely due to the holding tank being lowe than the height of the reactor buit the valve will fix that.

To be honest using any kind of powerhead along with a float switch is asking for trouble. I did that for a few years and flooded the house three times with 35 gal of fresh water from my top off drum. My switch got stuck once and a snail got on it two other times. I didn't catch the snail unitl the second time. I still can't figure out how that sucker got on the float, he had to crawl out of the water and travel about 16". Flooding the house is one thing...it lowered my SG down to 1.012 three times.
If you look around on ebay or some other sites you might be able to find a dosing pump or a peristalic pump, these wont allow the water to flow back and they pump very slow. I use a Liter meter along with my reactor. You can set it to pump as little as 2 oz or 26 gal in a single day. I use mine along with a sipidone float switch for level controll and the vacuum switch it comes with for safety. Even if both switches fail it will take a week or more for the sump to fill because I have the Liter meter set to pump about a gal more per day then the tank evaps.
