Hi All
Hi All,
Now that I am “officially” a moderator for the freshwater forum, I will make it a point to visit this forum more often.
I kept and bread freshwater fish for years before venturing into salt/reefs.
My particular specialty was breeding discus, angelfish and fresh water plant tanks, complete with CO2 and metal halide lighting.
Please feel free to e-mail golfish or myself if a question goes unanswered or any thing else requires our attention.
Regards,
Scott Passe

Question for you.
Ok here goes I have this oscar right, had him for a long time now. Well here a while back he got these big white spots on him(wasnt Ick) and he didnt eat for 2 months and Im not playing either I did not feed him for 2 months the food would just float in the top of the tank, and got kinda nasty lookin. So why wouldnt he eat is the question and them darn spots. Well hes eatin again and lookin healthy. Maybe he was hibernating.

I've got a question, how many discus could I keep in a 35g tank? and how many water changes would I have to do a week?

Hi mikeman, I've had discus for a couple of years now and I found a wide range of advice when I started out. I'll tell you what works for me and maybe some other folks here will do the same.
I have 5 in a 55 gallon, I change 50% of their water twice a week. I know it sounds like a lot but discus really need supreme water quality. I have a ph of 7 out of the tap so I don't mess with it. I know people who have them in a ph of 8 and they are spawning, very unusual.
You could try 2 or 3 discus in a 35 but I wouldn't go over 3. 3 would probably be best to distribute aggression. Mine are very sassy
I hope this helps and again this is what works for me, mine are so tame the swim into my hand and rub against my fingers Good luck!

actually, I wasn't to serious about keeping discus, I think its almost to challenging to do water changes once every 2 weeks for my reef tank, funny my angels love to come up to me and pick at my fingers, especally my wild caught male then I have. I can also pick my betta out of the water, he doesn't mind it to much, now I'm rabbling on so I'll just say good bye
