what size tank, how big is he, how big are the fish you are feeding him, how much water circulation, what filter, do you leave the leftover fish bodys in the tank, do you use water straight from the tap for the tank (i.e. do you use stress coat?
red bellied piranhas are very timid, and most likely wil not eat infront of you, especially when there is only 1 piranha. if the feeders are very big, chances are he can not disable them easily enough to eat them, also try varying the diet of the fish, try some beefheart, brineshrimp, worms... keep in mind that they get 12" long! a 30 gal would be needed for 1! do you have any live plants in there? if not, i'd suggest some amazon sword, anachris, creeping charlie, ect.. also some floating plants such as water sprite would be needed, as piranhas like the light to be dimmed by floating plants... as for it loosing color, try some sinking carnivore pellets (make sure it can swallow it), or cichlid pellets. what is the color of the gravel, darker natural gravel seems to promote coloration.
i'd suggestion posting the same question here: www.piranha.org
