Post Betta for my mother....?

My mother went out and bought This half gallon sized bowl with one 1" Betta in it.The LFS told her to change the water only once every 4-6 months and feed only once every 2 weeks. Is this right??? Sounded strange to me but I don't know much about Bettas.

Wow! At work we sell LOTS of bettas but never give out that kinda information! In my opinion the water should be changed 2-3 times per month and the betta should be fed a tiny pinch of flakes or betta pellets every other day. HTH

I would have to say change the water up to twice a week, no less than 3 times a month and feed betta pellets or brine shrimp every other day.

Twice a week would be good but in my opinon is not needed..These animals are from muddy puddles and streams...

Also use some dechlorinater. Bettas are very sensitive to chlorine. I bought this little bottle and I just put one drop in with every water change. Works great! I know that my bettas are always blowin bubble nests so I guess they're happy!!

Firefish,

Also they will ocasionally try to fight with certain chilids, who usually ignore the beta.

They do tend to “sulk” in larger tanks.

The are bubble nest breeders and fun fish to breed.
