Cool N O lighting for planted tank.

Getting ahead of myself again, but here we go.
If I get the 110GAL, I'm thinking that I can put 3-4 double NO ballasts in a hood (not yet built) Could I grow good plants with 320 Watts of light on a 110? I don't know just a hell of a lot about planted tanks.

I have a heavily planted 75. I went to home depot and got the really cheap dual shoplights and the ge bulbs. This gave me 4 40w bulbs over the tank. This was supposed to be temporary until I could build a hood and put in more bulbs but my plants have been doing so good so far that I left the lighting I have there now.

I have already shipped out cuttings to folks.

I was thinking I could get away with it, I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Well, it depends on what type of plants you plan on keeping. Low light will allow you to keep the plants alive, but they will not grow much. I have 80watts of light on my 46 bf and the plants grow like crazy, even without CO2 injections. HTH

Biomanjcs72,

Yes, this should be plenty.

320 Watts of light on a 110 = ~2.9 watts/gallon.

I had good luck using 3 x 150 watt Iwasaki MH lamps on a 135 (6’)

Which = ~ 3.3 watts/gallon

Also, the same lights over a 180, Which = 2.5 watts/gallon.

I was also using CO2, which made the plants grow like crazy.

Regards,

Scott
