My plan is to pack it full of LR, maybe LS, and basically, seal it. Plenty of water flow, maybe more than usual.Originally Posted by MasterBlaster

Has anyone ever heard of a darkwater refugium? This would be in addition to a regular, lighted one.
Other than increasing the water mass, are there any possible benifits to come from this?

I would think that your bristle worm population would be pretty high in there. Seeing as they are more active when the lights are off.

I don't think there would be any real benefits other than adding additional water volume. Would there possibly be more visible activity in there? I am sure because there are a lot of critters that don't com out until night. Would there be any different life forms in there versus a tank that does not provide the "no light" area? I don't think so.Originally Posted by MasterBlaster

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've posted here, but this one kinda caught my eye. Wouldn't this just be considered a cryptic zone? I had one set up on one of my old reefs, and actualy saw alot of life in it that wouldn't, or just plain couldn't thrive in lighted conditions. For the most part I ended up with alot of sponge in it as well as some other strange mostly filter feeding life. I personaly believe that this zone had a positive impact on my overall water quality. When it was removed I fought algae for months while adjusting my nutrient additions to the tank water. Any way that's just one mans observations.
Thanks,
Chris
