T5 opinions ?

I was thinking about putting in two 54w T5 bulbs in my 75 gal hood for my FOWLR. One 10000k and one actinic. Would this be sufficient and a good combo? I want to have coral later, so I know I'll need more light but for now would this be ok ?

Hey Bill were you thinking of 4 total bulbs? because a 75 is a 4 foot tank right? If you had a 10K on 1 side and an actinic on the other, your tank would be BLUE on 1 half, WHITE on the other

But if you put 2 of each over each side that would look nice.

Bill,

Yes, that would be fine for a FOWLR. You could always add more 54w T5 lamps later on or you could even make both of your T5 lamps actinic and add a couple of metal halides.

What are you talking about???

He's asking if it would be OK to use two 54w T5 lamps over his 4' long FOWLR tank. Sounds like a deal to me. He can always add more later on if he wants more intensity for a reef or he could simply make both of the T5's actinic and stick a couple of metal halides between them.

Poseidon,

OK, now I see what has you confused. You are probably thinking that 54w T5 lamps are only 24" long. They are 48" long.

Yea, 4 footers was what I was thinking about. Should I go with 2 actinics or 1 actinic and 1 10000k or ????

Thanks!

If you are going to have just two lamps, go with one of each.
