Question 2" for a 100W MH?

Hello,

I want to put the hamilton 100W metal halide universal kit over my 12 Gallon nano. I'd love to be able to put it right into the existing hood. I could do this and the bulb would be about 1 inch or so above the acrylic tank covering, and about 2" over the water. Would this be ok to do?

Thanks,
Todd

I just added a 175 on my 20, it is 9" over the top of the tank, I noticed that even though I have a fan on it it still heats up quite a bit. Maybe a little more height would be better.

I'd also be weary of water hitting the bulb resulting in it to explode over your system.

I would be a little concerned that the MH would heat the tank up too much if you don't elevate the lights!

I agree...there is no way that would work. not only would the heat be too high, but the bulb will most probably explode. I think it is too risky.
