    Post uv and acrylic ?

    hi -
would either a blacklight or a vho dammage acrylic over time?

    here's what i'm thinking:
i have acrylic tanks (polycast) w/ 7'x3' footprints. i want to get a 6' blacklight and literally lay it on top of the tank's front brace right along the edge of the front "glass". in this way, it would illuminate the front "glass" somewhat, and possibly prevent growths on it (less cleaning for me) while indirectly making my inverts glow farther back in the tank.

    so:
would this application (blacklight or any vho) cause dammage to the clear (except for salt etc deposits) acrylic - either through uv or heat?

    Post

I am not sure about damaging the tank but I have read several posts from people reporting that black lighting has had a negative affect (or is it effect??? hmmm...anyway) on their fish and such.

I could be wrong on this but I would like to know if you do go with this idea how it works out for you.

    Cool

I have seen corals "flouresce"(sp?) so to speak under Black light, pretty cool stuff, but I have no idea what effect it would have on fish. Let me know how it works.....
