Lighting for a 125gal FOWLR

I'm planning on doing a 125gallon fish only with live rock and sand. What would be the appropriate lighting combination for this? I don't believe I need something as powerful as metal halides, but i've heard the color VHO gives off is very appealing. I don't plan on putting an coral, anemones, or clams in the tank.

Can someone give me an opinion for what a decent lighting solution might be? As always, conserving money is a great thing! I've got tons of other stuff to buy as well!

Thanks everyone!

If you are sure that you will not be putting anyting more in your tank than fish and LR then almost any light will do. Just use the light that comes with the tank, if it came with one. If not, then a cheap CFL will be fine. I believe that anything more than that will be overkill.

Yup whatever you want is fine, but I do like VHO they are not not that expensive and do give a nice choice of color...

Good to hear I am over-compensating... I'll stick with the regular flourescents that the tank comes with til I am ready to keep something that actually requires it. Thanks for verifying my suspicions, guys!

Now that lighting is set, it's off to filtration!

I would recommend either a 2 bulb VHO or some PC's as they do make the tank and the fish coloration look much better. You can use just the NO's that come with the tank but one of these other combinations will look a million times better.

Will my live rock do okay under flourescent lights... coraline growth, etc, or do I need VHO or MH for that?
