Generally speaking, yes a 150w DE Metal Halide fixture will provide plenty of light for SPS corals. However each different type of ballast in combinations with different types of bulbs emit different levels of PAR (photosynthetic active radiation) which is the measure of useful light so to give you a definitive answer on whether or not there are better combinations, more information would be needed about this combination in particular.

its a hamilton 150 wat hqi MH, it comes with a built in ballast, and a 10k Ushio bulb, would that be good enough?

I think that would be a nice fixture for your tank. I would keep any really light demanding SPS in the upper half of your 30 cube.

I'd give it till about 8 weeks and make sure you have your calcium and alkalinity steady then give a Montipora sp. a shot.
