Aro Vho
what do you guys think of this ballast? it says that you need to run all the bulbs at once, unless you get a special wiring harness. I plan on getting the 3 bulb set, maybe the 4. let me know what you think. i'd like to keep zo's, shrooms, other softies, maybe some lps. it looks like a good deal, but i need an outside opinion.Carolina Corals under VHO/T5 retrofit.

You know the price looks good but you just can't beat the service from IceCap. No doubt this kit will work but I don't know how long they last and what kind of service you'll get from the company if you have a problem.
Just my thoughts Leddy. Scott Z. |

yeah i figured as much. do you have a site where ice cap offers a ballast wired with endcaps? i think i'd want quality over price, but if i have to get the ARO ballast, i'll do it. i think the aro will be better than my NO flourescents. I've got a long time to decide on my lighting, since i wont be putting any corals in untill june or july. i'll keep looking for good deals. thanks for the input Scott.

I think Premium Aquatics offers to wire to endcaps up for an additional charge.

ok Scott, quick little VHO ballast quality quiz:
IceCap vs. ARO? ARO vs. PFO? PFO vs. IceCap? I know IceCap is the majority winner, but the PFO set ups also look nice. I guess my question is, if I do the PFO set up, would I still be pleased with the product, or should I just spend the extra loot and go for the IC? Sorry for all the questions, but when it comes down to it, you fella's have the answers. Thanks Leddy Last edited by Leddy; 04-03-2004 at 01:34 AM. |

I have to Ice Cap HQI ballasts for my MH bulbs. They work exactly as they should, no complaints. I have a ballast from GRAYBAR electric to run 1 single VHO bulb. It is twice as long, and at least 10 times HEAVIER, and gets WAY HOTTER, then my icecap ballasts do. All that extra weight and heat, and it is driving a LOWER output bulb too.
Wiring the ballast is cake, it is all color coded if you but the harness, if not you can go to Lowes and buy wire by the foot for a little cheaper, but you lose the color coding. |
