All,
I will repost this as my first post dissapeared after it was moved to the correct forum. I have two 250w Blueline MH ballasts that are causing TV interference. I only recieved one reply on the last post and all it contained was a snide remark saying "Of course you do..." Actually I was hoping for some advise to help reduce this problem. Possibly some kind of grounded mesh shielding or anything that might help. Thanks, Joe ------------------ Never explain: Your friends do not need it, and your enemies will not believe it anyway. |

I know the solution to interference with X-10 modules used by Neptune type controller is to get a noise filter for the electric line but are pricey and most people just return the ballast instead of incurring the added expense.
Not for sure if that will also correct TV interference. I use Blueline ballast but use Satelite TV so its not an issue.... |

I might try grounding the case of the blue line, take a wire from the case and run it to the ground pin on your electrical plug. If the case is not already grounded well this would help.
Does it happen on all the channels, or just a few? If it is on all the channels then it is most likely coming in the power line to the TV (typical of older blenders and Vacum cleaners). I might also try something at the TV end, such as a High quality power/filter strip for the TV. If it is only on some of the channels then its coming in on the source = antenna, or cable, or sat, or VDSL, etc. If you are using the Antenna on the TV and not cable, there might not be much you can do. If its cable/VDSL/Sat, try re-locating the TV/cable run in the house away from the Blueline. You might have to run a new cable line through the attic or under the floor. Might try an reach Blueline as well, to see what they say. ------------------ Mark Play Well |

Not sure if it will help but you may try sheilded wire, that is run to ground.

You might want to check with SPASSE, he has them, and yes, he had to install two different types of filters in order to block the interference with his Neptune Controller's X-10 modules. These ballasts do emit a considerable amount of EMI and RFI. Someone posted a few weeks back that the manufacturer in China was working on a fix for this problem. You might want to contact the importer: Triple Bright International, Ltd. Address: 137 S. Kings Dr, Charlotte NC 28204 USA Tel: (704) 358-3732 Fax: (704)358-3736 They represent the Chinese manufacturer and import these ballasts for one particular online vendor who has exclusive retail rights in the U.S. You are much more likely to receive a straight answer from the importer than you are from the online retailer. If it RFI and only affects some channels your may have to make a box for the ballast and shield/line it with copper shielding (stick on at Radio s). Bill.

Chicago, Sheilded wire is a group of wire that has a metal coating that is wrapped around the wires before the plastic outside coating is applied. This is usually in the form of a wire mesh, and you can take that and ground that to something. It supposivly filters out some of the interference. Spasse can give you the EE version of that explanation.
I will be using the LM ballast on my MH's and I plan on using a sheilded wire to wire them up. I run my lights and junck with a old GE Fanuc PLC, which is sort similar to a X-10 controller from what I understand.
