I have the 48'' aqualight (4 65w) on my 75 gallon reef. I can keep most any softie in there just fine.Originally Posted by JST

Was wondering if anyone has an opinion about Coralife Aqualights? I'm looking at their 48" with moonlights. Good product?

I have the 72" with 4 96 watt PC... Nice but can't do a lot of corals unless they are close to the top and softys only.
But other then that, it is a good product.

I got an 80 gallon with a 4x65 Aqualight, no moons though
My Kenya Tree, zoos and GSP have all be growing good, they are about 1/3 to 1/2 way up.
My mushrooms are getting too much light so I am going to move them to the bottom.
I am considering buying the 48" x 7" x 2.5" for my 75 gallon. It was a FO tank for over 5 years no copper. I have the LR since July 5th, 2004 and some corals (Devil's Hand, Green Striped Mushrooms, Cabbage Leather, Brown Button Polyps, and Zoannthidae FRAGS) w/2 odd looking damsels... (may get rid of them)
I already have a single with 2 Coralife bulbs 50/50 21" and one old 40w - 48" strip fluorescent lamp that came with the oceanic setup placed about 5" above the glass cover. The new fixture 48" with two 65 watt 10,000K Daylight and two 65 watt True Actinic 03 Blue Compact Fluorescent Lamps plus three 3/4 watt Lunar Blue-Moon-GLow LED 470nm Lamps. I plan to use the legs that come with the fixture. How often do you change these bulbs?

I am running the 48'' aqualight (4 65w) with the moonlight. I've been running it for about 3 days and my inverts have all responded very positively. Also....most likely too soon to be sure but it seems my corraline growth has accelerated. The only negative thing I have to say about them is that the legs which are an option offered for them are very cheap.

Did you buy the fixture online or at the LFS?
I found some light info at http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch..._Code=Lighting This may help us.
Has anyone heard of the fixture ORBIT/ MOONLIGHT 48 INCH FIXTURE 4x65 watt (260 Watts Total )
I bought my light used for $150.00 with shipping.

I've had the coralife 260w for a little while now and am very happy with it. Kat check around for the newer models, they have 4 moonlights with them.
I decided to go with the Orbit fixture. I made my decision after seeing two TOTM for August 2003 and August 2004. The 2004 tank http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-08/totm/index.htm used this light setup Lighting:
2 x 40 watt normal output actinic lamps (14 hours)
2 x 65 watt actinic power compact florescent lamps (12 hours)
2 x 65 watt 10,000 Kelvin power compact florescent lamps (10 hours)
5 x blue LEDs for moonlights
The TOTM 2003 uses this set up LIGHTING/PHOTOPERIOD
2 x 65 watt actinic power compact florescent lamps (8 AM TO 8 PM)
2 x 65 watt 10,000 Kelvin power compact florescent lamps (9AM TO 7 PM)
If I could just do a quarter of this growth I would be thrilled.
Yeah, Mucho seems like a really nice guy too... I'm a little bummed, we (in Michigan) are having a swap meet Saturday, and I was hoping to get to meet "the Man" (Mucho Reef) but he's unsure now of being able to make itOriginally Posted by kat_reefer
Oh well, Hopefully I'll get to meet him eventually. All of the other local reefers that I have met have said that he is a super nice guy too.
'Course, so are pretty much all of the others too, lol.

His tank and methods have made my day. So if by chance you meet him, please tell him that a retired librarian is indebted to him. I changed my FO tank just recently upon retirement to a reef. It seems like everyday ... I was looking for extra $$$ to support my new hobby... Those two tanks and the methods used have helped me realize I can do this and not spend all of the $$$$ I have left each month.

I found a pretty good review of them on this site: Review of Coralife Aqualight™
HO or VHO flourescents would be a better option if you plan to keep corals. From what I've read PC's are largely inadequate for coral growth with any degree of prolonged success. Changing bulbs out once a year or so is also much, much more expensive with PC's.
There are several nice LED light solutions becoming available and the prices for these are also dropping. Anyone familiar with the Solaris lights will know that they are/were terribly expensive and for a long time were the only viable LED solution available to reefers. More cost effective LED solutions are on the horizon and many boast PAR values comparable to halides with only a fraction of the energy consumption and bulbs that last years instead of months.
As far as coralife lights I had one (4x65) on a freshwater tank a few years ago and had problems with the fans seizing up... I ended up returning it to my LFS in exchange for a nova extreme T5 fixture that I am still using on my frag tank to this day.
