stupid question
okay so is it possible to get a 250 watt bulb without a metal halide? i would be putting it over a 29 gallon and i dont really wanna buy a halide if i dont have to

No, the only 250w bulb is going to be a halide. It is difficult to come to an agreement with yourself that a metal halide is the way to go but trust me, it is. You can get fairly inexpensive VHO or PC kits for a tank but to me, spending the extra $100 - $150 in the beginning for a Metal Halide is worth it to provide the lighting to keep any coral you choose.
