Time to change MH to - what?
Hello all, I have a 55gal with 2 Hamilton 10k 175w mh mogul bulbs. They are getting on in hours and I need to replace them. I would like (have always wanted) more blue. I was thinking of going with 12 or 13k for a little tint. Without being able to try different bulbs in my tank and pick what looks good, I was looking for suggestions here- hamilton de iwasakis etc. I don't know the differences. Thanks

If you are looking for lighting with a bluer cast ,then the higher rated Kelvin bulbs will get you there. You will have to see for yourself what you desire.I run 10,000K Coralvue bulbs and they have a slight blue cast which I like, and they cast more blue then other 10000K bulbs. If you are looking for more blue then you can move over to 14000K and 20000K bulbs.Generally speaking the 20000K bulbs will be very blue and offer less PAR then 10000K.That is why many people supplement their 10,000K bulbs with actinics.Check out galleries of tank phots and/or your LFS to see them in person.
