*Ninong* I need your input please
Anyone elses opinion is very much welcome as well
![]() You may or may not remember seeing my thread on purchasing an Aquaspacelight for my 120. Anyway...I am just trying to get a handle on how it will be mounted. Will the hanging cables hold the fixture if simply in the drywall and not in ceiling joists? I ask because it appears that I am not going to have joists in the proper places in the ceiling. going over a 48'' tank and I never really forsaw me using a suspended fixture but alas!! Here I am freaking out because I am fearing the worst. Thanks, Mark |

Well, I'm not an expert on lighting systems, but Drywall I do know. There are anchors, can't quite recall what they're called, but if you ask in a home depot or other hardware type store, they will know. Anyway, these anchor things go into a small hole, and then have little like, "wings" that spring out to the sides to distribute the weight of what's being held up over a larger area. It works really good as long as you're not going to be swinging the light fixture around wildly (which at that price, I am quite certain you won't do
) There are other options too, depending on what type of connectors this system has. Trust me, there is always a way ![]()

![]() I thought of butterfly wings as well..Just not sure if they would hold as the fixture weighs approx 50 lbs. I'll have a much better idea tomorrow when it arrives. I know Ninong owns one and am hoping to get his insight. I dont want to be running around tomorrow night searching for hardware. I'd rather do that tomorrow afternoon ![]() |

If your light fixture will run lengthwise across the joists, you could anchor a board to the joists and fasten the hangers to the board. With a bit of decorative moulding, it could look quite nice.

Mark,
The 4' Aquaspacelight fixture weighs approx. 35 lbs. (The 6' Aquaspacelight weighs approx. 50 lbs.). Here is the manufacturer's owner's manual for that fixture. It explains the mounting options and offers words of caution. http://www.aqua-medic.de/eng/support/aquastarlight.pdf
