    Red face 48x13x20 need HO's I think

Would like to try 6 bulb Tek Light that runs 54w per bulb. I know the HO lights are kinda new. I think if I got the 8 bulb Tek, that it would be lighting the front and back of the glass -- so would have to go with only the 6 bulb. Was wondering if anybody was familiar with the width and area from the top of the tank a light like this should be hung. I'm hoping it will clear my Aqua C Remora Pro cup and lid. I don't want to melt it, or my egg crate canopy. Thought about the PC 4x96w, but am afraid it's too heavy for access. Also wondered if anyone knew how much a PC 4x65w weighs. About ready for a 75 gallon and would like to transfer what I'd be buying now to the new tank that we'll get in about another year.

You can suspend the fixture any height you want above your tank. You might try 6" above the surface and see how that works out. You're right, you definitely can't use an 8-lamp fixture over your present tank because it would be much too wide. The 6-lamp fixture is 15" wide, so that's more than enough for a tank that is only 13" wide.

Thanks for the advice. I finally found a picture 4 Light Tek Light on 80 gallon of the four light lamp and some measurements at the same link. I am hoping that the 15" width on the 6 bulb lamp will work out ok. Looks like the front and back sides of the lamp could be 1" to 2" of just the lamp body itself. Maybe I can hang it a little more toward the back of the tank and still clear walking in front and being able to reach in without disturbing it too much. 324 watts of T-5 lighting. If there were a way to get a little more light down there without going metal halide or making the tank too hot or the top too heavy -- it'd sure be great. If anybody has any better idea than this one, let me know!
