Adding LED lights to your tank are really for asthetic purposes, unless you can control the intensity of them to match the lunar cycle and even then the verdict is out on the benefit. Do you need them? No, absolutely not however if you want to add them to help with night time viewing they will cause no harm.

What does the hood that came with your tank hold right now? Does it hold two 4' long NO (normal output) fluorescent lamps or just one? Lighting for a fish-only tank can be pretty much whatever you want it to be. Most fish couldn't care less. If you are running two 4' long 40w fluorescent lamps, you might want to run one 50/50 and one actinic or one daylight and one actinic. It's pretty much whatever you think looks best.

You do NOT need a moonlight of any kind for a fish-only tank. The only reason for running an appropriately sized and controlled moonlight on a reef tank is to induce spawning. This may or may not be something everyone would want to do in the first place but it is really unnecessary on a fish-only tank.

yeah right now i have 2 seperate bulbs so i ahve one normal daylight bulb and one actinic only problem is one side of my tank is blue and one side is normal...........is this gonna mess with the fish or is it just messing with me?

what i did was just take the two bulbs and take of the lid part hood and set the two light fixturew one behind the other just to give my tank more of a mid-point this is only temporary because i cant leave my tank this open i dont want fish to jump out...........any suggestions?

So you're saying you have incandescent bulbs, rather than the long (length of the tank) fluorescent bulbs? That could be a problem if you don't have them shielded... cuz incandescent bulbs get very hot, and will burst if the water happens to splash up onto them... or they could even burst from the salt creep. I would recommend you get a fluorescent fixture if you can, if not make sure the bulbs are protected from the water..... As for your color balance, I'd say go with the normal bulbs on both sides, since you really don't have any corals to 'light up' with the actinic.
