They are not going to fire. You need to make sure that the bulb wattage is exactly the same as the ballast wattage.
This may be a stupid question, but I am new to the Metal Halides and I am not an electrician..... received my metal halide retro kit today and it came with 2 175 watt ballasts, but the bulbs they sent were Ushio 250 watt 10000K bulbs.....what is going to happen if I use these 250 watt bulbs with a 175 watt ballast?

I actually didn't realize they were wrong until I went to Ushio's site to get info on the bulbs and then looked at the sleeve and it has a 250 in the code. I had already p;ugged them in and they actually came on....should they not have?Originally Posted by Reefland
Well they may have, but you have 250w bulbs only getting 175w of power, not good on the bulbs. I would remove them and contact the vendor to get replacements shipped immediately.
