Yet another metal halide question

This may be a stupid question, but I am new to the Metal Halides and I am not an electrician..... received my metal halide retro kit today and it came with 2 175 watt ballasts, but the bulbs they sent were Ushio 250 watt 10000K bulbs.....what is going to happen if I use these 250 watt bulbs with a 175 watt ballast?

They are not going to fire. You need to make sure that the bulb wattage is exactly the same as the ballast wattage.

I actually didn't realize they were wrong until I went to Ushio's site to get info on the bulbs and then looked at the sleeve and it has a 250 in the code. I had already p;ugged them in and they actually came on....should they not have?

Well they may have, but you have 250w bulbs only getting 175w of power, not good on the bulbs. I would remove them and contact the vendor to get replacements shipped immediately.
