which lighting??
Hi everyone.. I was wondering about the coralife aqualife pro hqi 2x150 metal halides.. well. i have that fixture and the hamilton 2x250 deluxe hood.. and i was starting to get coloration from the hamilton but one of the ballast went out and i had to send it out so i tried out the new coralife fixture..and I liked the coralife fixture better because it was more quiet and i liked the actinics.. well.. overall i like it better..so i was wondering what should i keep.. i mean i have a sixty gallon..and i'm keeping alot of acro's.. would my corals lose color because of the wattage change.. the hamilton had 2x250's and 2x55 actinics while the coralife has 2x150 hqi with 2x96's... would switching lights make a big difference..btw they are both 10k metals..thankyou..

Hi sleepy1711, Welcome to Reefland!
Show us some pictures of the acros! ![]() To your question, the 150's will be fine, although there may be an adjusting period and you may even notice a slight coloration change in the corals lowere in your tank, however the 150's will provide enough intensity for them. When you tank about MH, the higher wattages are needed to provide the intensity lower in the tank. With that said, Montipora's will do well low in the tank while the higher light requiring corals may need to be higher in the tank. Overall I think you'll be fine. ![]() |
