New Aquamedic 250 HQI Ballast smells

I just hooked up my Aquamedic 250 HQI fixture to my ballast and fired them on, upon turning the fixture on, I notice a smell coming from the ballast. Anyone have any inputs? This is the fixture: http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...de=Aquamedic-H

What kind of smell,

Does it smell like buring plastic, Rubber, or just smokey. Has the ballast been sitting around for a while, does it have lots of dust on the inside.

I have the triple 250hqi/4 actinic light fixture and when I first fired it up, it made my place smell for a few days but it will go away soon.

As far as the smell, it is the black tar that is inside the new ballast(s).
Also, some of the electrical components can also add to the smell.

Do not worry about the smell it is normal and it will go away. Just give it time.
