Don't worry saltjunkie, my ways aren't accepted either, I get yelled at a lot by other reefers
I haven't changed my water in 2 months
I do the same thing with my lights, on when I get up, off when I go to sleep
I have macroalgae growing in the main tank
I don't use a protein skimmer or any real mechanical filtration, just live rock, sand & powerheads
I have lots of bristle worms in my tank one is the size of a #2 pencil
I have pufferfish in a reef tank
likewise I have a chocolate chip starfish in the same tank
I have "brakish" water fish living in the tank
I have 1 fish for every 7 gallons, (but they're small)
I NEVER clean my glass

and all my critters look happy
and I got lots of coraline algae on the glass
and my corals are growing really fast

Just goes to show to each his own.

I do believe that Arctic fox as well as some old timers in the hobby are on the right track. The skimmer will be obsolete one day as well as most other forms of mechanical filtration.
