Talking New Metal Halide Retrofit Came Today!

I Received:

2 - 175watt 10,000k bulbs
2 - URI Super Actinic Bulbs
4" IceCap Fan

My Question is....

How Do I mount the whole fixture in my hood? It is a
Custom Sea Life. The Only way that I see as a possibility is removing the screws that hold the sockets onto the reflector, Drilling holes in the hood, then re-inserting the screws throught the hood and reflector and back into the sockets. There has to be a simpler solution. Do I have to just drill holes through the reflector and screw it into the hood?????

I would just drill a few holes in the reflector and screw it into the hood, Wait! Try to keep a space between the hood and reflector to let air travel through. First screw in two 1"x2"lengths of wood to the hood that are the same length as the kit. Then screw the kit to the 1"x2"s ........use hard wood if you can get it.

I agree with mark entirely I have a very similar set up and mounted some wood in between to circulate air underneath and just screwed the reflectors and sockets into the canopy..Dan

That's what I was thinking. I mounted some PC's on another tank and made sure to add space between the canopy and reflector. Well, I am going to have a new canopy built because the reflector does not fit in my current one. Right now I removed the top of the old canopy and set the whole retrofit on to of it (halides are about 5-6" above the water. When I took this pic the bulbs were not warmed up yet, and believe me - when they are all fired up you don't want to look at them 2 long (After staring at them for a few minutes I walked outside and everything was yellow for a while)

Here are my plans for the hood:

12" tall, 13 inches wide, and between 48.5" to 49"
Doors on the front that open for easy access
4" hole on one side for the IceCap fan
(Sound Alright?)

Small-Fish~

Champion Lighting ( www.championlighting.com)

This is a 48" Metal Halide / Actinic Combination

I paid $399 for the kit and $120 for the upgrade from 5500k to 10,000k. The actinics are Normal Output URI - $40 for both
