    MH's and hair algae

Is it possible that my halide is a contributing factor to hair algae? Photoperiod of about 10 hours a day. When I got back from vacation I noticed a small patch and thought that getting back to my water change schedule would help. It has stopped the spreading but it's still there. I associated the outbreak with the death of the cardinal and I guess that it could still be in there somewhere rotting but my nitrates are back down to nearly undetecable so I don't think so with all my scavengers. I also see more bright green algae, not the thick cyano type but just a thin coating on my pvc framework. I'm going to start changing 2.5 gallons on Wed and 2.5 gallons on Sat and see if that helps. Could my lighting be a cause of this? The bulb is brand new and I keep the tank bottom deitrus free so I'm a little stumped. I'd hate for this to get out of control.

Doubt it's your bulb. If that were the case our tank would have been a HA farm under the 18 month old ushios. It's nutrient related.

I thought so..........maybe I used too much phyto, overfed once or the cardinal is still somewhere in there. That's all I can think of.
