Recommendations for Reef lights?

I'm currently looking for some aquarium reef lights. I would like to start out with anemones and soft corals. I'm still debating if I should do hard corals (I might not). I'm only aware of Metal Halides (most expensive), Power Compacts, and a cheaper form of light for reefs. I have a 60 Gallon 48" long TruVU tank and would like recommendations on a complete package for power compacts, metal halides, and others. I wouldn't mind getting one that also mimicks moonlight as well. I appreciate your recommendations on brands, vendors, pricing, and performance. Thanks in advance!

If your wanting to keep Anemone then you will need Metal Halide lighting.

Hamilton has a nice looking dual 250w DE fixture:
4' PROTOSTAR 250 WATT 10,000K HQI & 2 PC COMPACT FL 2-96W
http://www.hamiltontechnology.com/sh...0f8f2ee942af68

For the same price, you could get a nice Aqua Medic fixture too.

I recommend staying away from trying to keep anemones, they are difficult at best even with proper lighting.

I use 660 watts of VHO light for my 90 gal reef with 2 icecap 660 ballasts, all of my corals are very happy!

It looks like the sale price they quoted is for the fixture that include 2 MH bulbs and ballasts only. You have to add $30.00 for each of the PC bulbs, which brings total price to $733.95. I think for this money you can choose something else. At least give it a look

Here's a link to a page for 48" fixtures available at customaquatics.

Wow, I didn't know that these lights of this magnitude exsisted. I am running a Coralife with two 65 watt 10,000k lights and two 55 watt actinic lights. I do have coral and anemone that seem to be doing well. I know with the lighting that I have my water temp runs about 78 degress. If I were to increase my lighting to the lights mentioned in this forum will this effect my temp (I am guessing it will)? And if so, what would I do to keep my temp in the correct range?TankU
