Yup, it will definitely work. As youc an see the HQI ballast powers the bulbs a bit more than the other ballast so it would actually be a better choice. I think the HQI ballast and AB 10k's would be a nice combination.![]()
It seems from the following link http://www.advancedaquarist.com/iss...2004/review.htm
That the tests that were performed were done using the PFO HQI M80 using Mogul type bulbs. It seems that this ballast beat all the others fairly dramatically in performance for nearly all bulbs tested. If anyone knows first hand weather this ballast will work or not with mogul based bulbs I would really like to know. Thx alot for your help!

That is good to know since that is what I just picked up for a ballast.

Eventhough this ballast is a bit bulky and gets a bit warm I like the way it drives my bulbs. All the bulbs I had tried, this ballast gave me the best results. I have IceCap electronic ballasts to compare it with.
For example, both fired 10K Ushio;s and AB bulbs ( I use 250W mogul ) but driven by the HQI ballast they appeared brighter white color and more on the yellowish side with the electronic ballast. At least to my eye.
Kind regards,
Gene.

Yah from the shots I have seen with Ushio 10k they seem to be on the yellow side for some reason. I plan on staying away from the Ushio bulbs for that reason. I dont like the yellow look at all. I am a crisp white w/ supplemented actinic kind of guy :P. The plan is 2x175w 10k (not sure which make yet) and 2x96w Actinics.Originally Posted by zhenya
PFO doesn't make a HQI ballast for a 175W bulb. You can get 175W bulbs in 14,000K and 15,000K but they appear a bit dim and blue for most people. 250W bulbs are a much better choice IMO and they also come in 14,000K and 15,000K. PFO does make a 250W HQI ballast which drives the 250's to a nice crisp blue white color.
