Spacers between reflector and...?
I've read where some have used spacers between the reflector and the canopy to aid in air circulation. I've already screwed the reflector and lighting into my canopy and am wondering if I should do it over with spacers? I'll be using 2 250w 10K MH and 2 96w PC's for supplementation. Do you think this will get too warm?
Since I decided to use MH's after the canopy was built , I'm having a riser made that the canopy will sit on. As a result, I've not been able to run the halides to see how warm it does get. If I need to re-do this, now would be the time but I don't want to create more work if I don't need to BTW, I am also using 2 4" fans for air circulation. Thanks, -Lyle

You should do it. I have done it on all the reflectors I have installed, even when I use PC's I did it. MH's get hot you could burn your canopy.

I used a small block of 2x4 as a spacer. There are better things, but its worked great for me. THe base itself gets nowhere near as hot as the lamp. I agree that its a good idea to increase flow-through on the canopy. It should only take a few minutes. Goto the local hardware store and you have no problem finding something that will work.
