Any idea's? Anyone?
Does anyone know anything about a ballast kit made by Holophane corp.?
I have three of these and was thinking of changing out my 175's to these 400's.
Specs are:
Auto transformer ballast, IS-4
Lamp: M59/ H33
Multi tap voltage 120/208/240/277
Amps 4/2.23/2/1.76
Freq. 60hz
Open circuit volts 289
Capacitance 24 MFD/400vac
I have 240v service by my tank and was thinking It might save a few buck running 240v instead of 120v. will the M59 lamp work with a reef system?
I believe it is a probe start.
Way too much information that I am not familiar with.
Would three 400's be too much light? Tank dim are 72" long, 27 high & 18 wide.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Andyzr

Sorry I can't answer anything other then the last part:
No I don't think it would be to much light, but unless you have a chiller, it may produce to much heat!
I would ask some electrician friends or even go to GreyBar or is it GrayBar Electric in your area to clarify those technical questions....
By the way Welcome to Reefland!!!
3 - 400W bulbs would be about right for an SPS tank of those dimensions. Here is a link to a chart for bulbs and their ANSI codes and ballast types.

Thanks for the help, If & when I decide to install the 400's I will definatly need a chiller. The 175's kept the tank around 80-81*.
Thanks,
Andy
Make sure to explore all of your cooling options before going the chiller route, I know sometime they can't be avoided though. Be sure to look seriously at plenty of fans for the hood and evaporative cooling for the sump if possible.
Do you know of a link for the sump evaporative cooling? or DIY project?
Thanks
No but it's pretty simple really, it's not a piece of equipment or anything. Evaporative cooling is done by using a small fan that blows across the surface of the sump. The water is evaporated a bit faster from the air blowing across it as well as cooled slightly by the cool air. All you would need is a desk fan or similar blowing across the surface of the sump, display or both.
I have a couple of extra cooling fan laying around, this summer I will rig something up.
Thanks
Andy
Sorry for not catching this thread, been working to much lately. The cooling fans should do the trick. I run mine about 12 hours a day during the summer. Target makes a great little clip on fan that does it for me!
