CurrentUSA 's "Orbit" Fixtures
Does anyone have anything good / bad to say regarding the relatively new CurrentUSA's Orgit series HO Power Compacts?
I'm researching new lighting, and comparing the T5 lights, and I have heard some varying info on the ORBIT's, as in their safety. The reason is, they were formally made by Custom SeaLife, which just went under.....hmmmmmm Anyway, if anyone can shed some light on this ( sorry for the pun ) it would be greatThanks, WickkidFish |

Hey there, welcome to Reefland. It's good to have you here.
I don't have any personal experience with the new orbits. I used to have 3 different CSL PC lights and they were all good equipment. I have since changed to MH and VHO combinations. What type of critters are you keeping? If you already have doubts, I wouldn't buy them, this leads to alot of undue stress on ones brain. HTH |

Amen brother!! I purchased the Orbit light, but now think it is a $500 mistake! Wish I had gone with a SunLight Supply Tek Light with T5 bulbs. I purchased the Orbit from Marine Depot.Com......Second mistake. I'd avoid them for anything in the way of durable equipment. The have an atrocious return policy, 10% reshelf cost, and a lousy customer service dept. heir prices are a little cheaper, but definately not worth the cost of the expericence. As far as my tank, I have an Oceanic 75 gal. Thats it. No other room in my house that my wife will allow! I am learning that I wish I had gone with a refugium, but they were not available like now when I purchased it. Also, I like so much of the technology coming out now that the "ultimate" tank can be done!! I have alot of fish, as they are what I think tanks are about. Don't get me wrong, reef tanks can be cool, but I just think it started with fish. Specifically, I am into clown fish / anemones relationships. I did some research with anemones in college, and now I am trying to make better a way of keeping anemones a longer time. I used to have a "killer tank", as in lion fish, stone fish, morray eel, triggers and aggressive fish. But now I am all about the more peaceful fish....clowns, wrasses, gobies, maybe a well-behaved tang or angle. Secondly, I want to have a system that has fish and a decent reef. I believe I have worked out the answer. I am now working with an aquarium shop guy to make the ultimate filter refugium design. Dream tank: 150-200 gallon, all glass, 24" -30" deep 24"-30" high, with a split 40 gal gravity sump containing refugium/live rock, particle "sock" collector, protein skimmer, and an inline UV sterilizer and calcium reactor. An ozonator also may not hurt. This should be topped with a mix VHO or even MH light combo with possibly T5 (rather than power compact) Anyway, glad to be around. Hope this web provides some interesting, informed poster's opinions. WickkidFish |

Hey, we have all made the same mistake, some of us more than once.
Keep working on that dream, we aren't going anywhere, we'll be here. Got any pics of your tank? |
