12000K Sunburst vs. 14000K Hamilton
ANYBODY EVER COMPARED THESE 2.
Is the 14,000 less blue and brighter???? I have a 110 reef with 2 (175 MH) 10K and 2 110 Attinic VHO's. I want a little bluer coloring. I have tried the 12000 K sunburst and was to blue and not bright enough. I am also looking to upgrade to 250 watt MH's as well. Any idea on a combination for me. Keep 175's go to 250's 14,000K & 50/50 VHO's 14,000 & Attinics Thanks Steve |

I have tried the Coralvue 14K and I really like it. To me it is a really crisp white, but who knows!! I would go with the 250W. That seems to be about the most universal bulb out there as far as coverage is concerned. If your tank isn't anymore than 24" deep, that's the way to go. If it were me, I'd go with the actinics for supplementation. Hey, by the way, Welcome to Reefland, glad to have you!!! |

How did the 14,000 compare to a 10,000. Was it pretty similiar, just maybe a little more blue?

I think I would go with 250w 10k's (for the "punch") and then actinic supplementation if you like the blue.

In the 175w version,
, my German 10K Ushio bulbs are a lot brighter than my 14K CV,s. So as when we used 400w 20K Radiums on pulse start ballasts, the light is a nice colour but more is needed for the same results as lower colour temp bulbs. I did run the 400w version of the 12K Sunburst and always liked it, although it also lacked intensity. One of the best looks I had was on a 4ft tank, with the 400w Sunburst between a pair of 175 10K Ushio bulbs.

I have gone to 14k 250 watt hamiltons and I dont even turn my 165 VHO actinics on anymore. The 14K are really blue.

i run both 14K hammies and a 12K sunburst. the sunburst is definitely bluer.
i love my 14K hamiltons, great growth and color without any actinics needed. |

I'll probably give them a shot next. I started with 10k Ushio's, moved to 20k AB's and now use 10k XM's.
