Do you have any fans? You will only know if you have a temperature problem by running the lights and monitoring the temperature.

You should always keep a close eye on your temperature so I am glad to hear you are getting a thermometer.

Can you try raising the lites. The glass underneath the lites will get dirty, and IMO, you'll spend more time cleaning it off than you are good for.

i dont think those are the leg mounts that can be raised, i know that glass cover will get dirty but i guess i will clean it every 2-3 days. so some light will shine thru.

The covered top also reduces the gas exchange that needs to occur at the surface, I would remove the glass. What is the temperature swings that you were experiencing without the glass?

uh oh! the top covers approximately 65% of the whole top.

well at most i saw the temp go as high as 82 degrees
with the top it is at around 79-80 degress

but that was a testing of a couple of hours.

I don't think the temp rising to 82 is that big of a problem, wouldn't want it going much more than that. If you need to use some fans, any small desk fan will work out fine.

I picked up a couple of clip on fans at Target last year for less than 10 bucks each. I have them on my sump when the halides are on. HTH

The glass helps prevent evaporation...is evaportaion of less concern versus the gas exchange?

Evaporation is easily dealt with by adding water. Lack of gas exchange causes serious problems - buildup of carbon dioxide causes the pH to fall, and low oxygen levels can cause death of most reef inhabitants... Evaporation is much less of a concern here IMHO, and helps cool the tank.

I'll assume this is the same for a fish only tank?
