3 250W HQI pendent 10K for 180Gal 6x2x2
Do I really need to supplement my 3 250W HQI pendent 10K s with VHO actinics? People have told me that I will want the actinics to cover parts of the spectrum that the MHs won't. Also I've been told that the actinics will make the tank look nicer by reducing the "white/yellow" appearance of the MHs. Any opinions?

I don't think you will need them but you may want to use them to get the dawn\dusk effect. I also use 250 watt HQI's. There a real slow starter and my tank is in a sun lite room so I don't use actinics at dawn but I do use them for dusk and I also use them to make my 400 watt Iwasaki look fair.

Hi, I though the same thing that they would need some actinic, but after seeing them I was very impressed with their color. You may want some for a dawn/duck effect but the color is very pleasing without them IMO. They have absolutely no yellow or green to them at all. A very well engineered product IMO.

I like the Actinic for the dawn/dusk, plus they show the corals flourescent pigments commonly gained by the intense lights like HQI. There are some coral that look 2ox better with just a little added actinic.
Icecap will be coming out with a dimmable ballast similar to the 3000 that might be all you need for actinic. You surely don't need them, but I like the look. -Perry |
