Question Beginner Needing Some Lighting help

Im an extreme beginner to the saltwater aquarium thing. I have just recently started with my first tank, one of those 5 gallon marineland hexegon eclipse ones (From Petsmart). I had about 12 people tell me to not make it a SW. any way Luckely im 4 weeks into it and i havent ran into a problem yet. Idk if im just lucky or what but i started out with a damsel....little blue thing with a yellow tail. Everything was just going so smooth the ph the amonia, trites, trates, just everything . i added a nice display of live rock in there wich turned out looking really nice. After a week i added a strawberry crab. still with no problems i got rid of the damsel and got myself a little clown fish. now heres where the question comes up. Now i know clowns can live with out anenemes, but i would really like to add one to my tank. I know that aneneme lighting can be expensive, but for a 5 gallon tank how expensive??? not a reaf tank....just on small aneneme on a piece of rock will do. any suggestions of what type of lighting would be greatly appreciated. Also my hood is shaped in a way that it seems like my lighting options would be limited..thats why i said what typed of tank i had.

Hi Green Marine,

There really isn't an anemone suitable for a tank that small, and one so new. They are delicate inverts that require prestine conditions from a mature aqaurium that provides intense lighting. Check out this link for some excellent Anemone care info: Be A Host To Your Anemone

I am glad you've learned that lesson already. It's always best to do your own research and then get a second or third opinion for the sake of the animal. ;D

You would be better off getting a little torch coral and seeing if your clown will host in it. Still need enough light for the torch though.

Bad things happen real fast in small tanks. You really have to be on top of your game to keep a tank that small.

Good luck with it..
