Lighting a 80 Gal.
Hi all
I picked up a great deal on an 80 gal tank with measurements of 48X18X20 what type of lighting would I need to keep SPS? Thanks Arlo |

Hi Arlogut,
The dimensions actually work out to a ~65 gallon tank. Anyhow, a 2x250w halide kit would do the trick, perhaps even a 2x150w, keeping the lower light requiring SPS near the bottom (Montipora's, etc.). |

Sounds like a nice size for a reef tank. MH as suggested or T5 fluorescents will work fine. Just get good equipment, especially if you go with 150 watt halides.

totaly agree with reefland on this one. if you do go with 250 watt hqi then you could go with a 10-14k bulbs and not have to suplement with additional blue. this is the way i am going because if i have to spend loads on lighting then i want only to have mh not mixing with vho which i have to change all the time.
