I just got my new tek t-5s in and they are great. My question is I have heard that soft corals dont do to good with them. That they are to bright. Any one have any imput on that. Anyone have experiance with a bta with them?

Floyd,

The lights aren't too bright, however some people may report problems due to improper acclimation. If you are moving from normal output lighting to T-5's, and do not make a slow gradual change, corals will suffer.

I dont currently have any coral. Im getting some frags this next week how do I aclimate them to the light?

It depends on what lighting conditions the frags are coming from. If they have been under something significantly less intense for any amount of time, you would want to put them on the bottom of the tank and slowly work them to their final home. If they are coming from a similar lighting intensity or more, go ahead and place them in their final spot.

The thing about the T5's is that they are that bright and you don't have many low light areas in the tank because of the wide distribution of light. Open Brains and Mushrooms are the only 2 you really need to worry about. What are the deminsions of your tank and how many T5's do you have?

Im not sure of the deminsions it is a standard 46 gallon bow. 36 inch long. I have the 4 bulb tek light. 1 6500k ge 1aquablue and 2 actintic plus

You should be fine with the softies. You can use fiberglass window screen in layers to acclimate if the additional light is stressing anything out. Just do a couple layers of screen over the tank above the critter and pull one layer a week.
