compact flour question
Hello all...I was looking at two models of lighting for my FOWLR tank which houses a couple of mushrooms...Coralife Lunar w/ 65W 10,000K & 65W actinic with 2 lunars or the Sattelite w/ 65W 10,000K & 65W actinic with 1 lunar...any advise on these units would be appreciated...thanks Denny

Re: compact flour question
I'm not personally familiar with either unit but the Coralife model has received some negative comments on the boards relative to product quality and reliability.

Re: compact flour question
I had one and am very glad I spent the extra money and got my 2x250W MH with compact flourescents. IMO, spend more wisely.

Re: compact flour question
In order for us to really know - we need to know what size tank you have.
I also had that same Coralife fixture and recently upgraded to the Aquactinics Tx5 fixture (5x54w T5's). I wish I hadn't wasted the money on the Coralife in the first place. That said - it is probably fine for a FOWLR tank. I upgraded in orded to keep better corals - fish would be fine with that lighting and I never had any reliability issues. Although your viewing enjoyment would more than double (costs at least twice as much) with a good T5 fixture. |

Re: compact flour question
I've had both of the PC fixtures you're referring to. They both worked great IMO. I do think that the Corallife radiated more heat into the tank. Although it was a larger fixture...but on a larger tank. It was also the older of the 2 fixtures.

Re: compact flour question
I've had a set of 2 x Coralife 65W fixtures for a while (4 years) - I recently replaced them w/ 3 x 55w PC DIY from AH Supply. I guess I'd say they "served their purpose" - never any problems, nothing to write home about.
