Why wouldn't you be able to change out the bulb?? I guess I am not catching the drift of the question. Is it the color you are unhappy with???

Re: Sunpod 150W 14k

The bulb can be changed in that fixture pretty easily. Just unscrew the wingnuts that hold the UV protective glass on. The bulb is held in place by a spring loaded pin.

Any of the 150w HQI bulbs should run in that fixture. The lower K bulbs(10K and under) will be more of a white light, while the higher K bulbs(20k and over) will be more blue. I think that fixture ships with a 14k bulb in it.

As to benefit aside from the way it looks I really don't know. I'd guess some bulbs have higher PAR than the CurrentUSA one, but I doubt the difference in growth is worth the $100 right now. The bulbs need changed every ~6 months, and you can change up the color/manufacturer then.
