New lighting

Well the wife and I broke down and ordered a Solaris fixture. Anyone have or had one?

We are excited about it.

Re: New lighting

I like having conversations with myself. Why in the heck would you let your wife talk you into one of those overpriced lights?

Re: New lighting

She must of slipped something into my drink or something or she asked me during my deep sleep. I am excited about it though. I got her back by ordering a Zeroedge tank though. And I am going to order a Solaris for my tank also. YEA Take that!

I don't know, you'll have to ask the shipping department.

Sorry I missed your 5-6 posts, but I was in bed fighting for pillow space with my dog.
On to the Solaris, I have heard that the 400w is the equivalent of a 250w, at best. They will probably do well for zoanthids and other lower lite corals, but I don't think I would do any sps under them.........yet. I am sure that they will improve over time, everything these days does. Take some pics when you get them in.

I actually thought it was pretty humorous, kind of like when you are walking around in a grocery store and having a conversation with your wife, only to find that she is 2 aisles away. No problem!!!!!!
Let us know what you think about those solaris, as I stated, I think they are going to improve these lites, but man oh man, the price is high.

Re: New lighting

I've looked at them and think they have great potential. The price is steep for there not being much testing done. Once the verdict is out and they have had time to tweek them and fine tune everything I may look a little harder into them. In the mean time keep us posted on it.

Re: New lighting

I've come within inches of clicking the check out button on some of the same components and LEDs for a little DIY project more than a few times. I just don't see me having the time to get it all rigged up and going in the near future.

I dont think they'll beat halides for big tank applications anytime soon. In things like nanos I'm pretty convinced that a well planned LED array will revolutionize the way those systems are made. Intensity over short distances and cool running temps are just what the doctor ordered for those applications.

Re: New lighting

Make sure to post pictures when you get the light, and then another set 3-4 weeks later. This Saturday will be 4 weeks since I switched from Halides to T5, and I may have to ADD more bulbs!!!
