Question Power Compacts for 10g Tank

Hi all, I just put together my fist mini reef (10g.) this weekend and I'm in search of good lighting for it. I'd really like to go with a set of PC lights in a retrokit form but there are so many I'm not sure which ones to go with. My LFS has a very nice kit for $69 but I have a feeling that it's greatly over priced. The kit was pretty small and looked to be about 10'-12' in length. HELP ME OUT!!!!!

10'-12'(feet)? or 10"-12"(inches)?

Anyway, try AHSupply.

You could use either their 13 watt kits or their 36 watt kits. Don't worry about the size of the bulbs. They are not called Power Compacts for nothing. The 13 watt is onlt 7.5" long and I had four of them on my ten gallon. It was painfull to look at them when they were on. They are increadibly bright for 13 watt bulbs.

Hey... thanks! I know what you mean about the intensity of the lights. I have the 65watt retro kit on my 30 gallan and I tell you... they are super bright. I'm in the process of making a custom canopy for the 10g... how many inches above the water should my lights be???

You know what's really strange... the place you recommended to me is 3 miles from ym house! That's really crazy... and the prices are great. I'm on my way to pick up a kit (2 x 13watt Deluxe Bright Kit) right now. Thanks for the info!!!!

3" or 4" above the water would be fine.

Glad to help. I just hate that none of these places are close to me! I would love to drive to Premium Aquatics, FFExpress, Marine Depot, AHSupply, etc., etc., etc.

It always happens like that for some reason. I've been trying to find lights for weeks and they're right here under my nose.

Hi there! I have a ten gal minireef that I'm tearing down. I had great success with it and I used 2-32watt pc's=64 total watts. It depends on what you are planning to keep. HTH

You know, when I first started off with my 30g 5 months ago, I said to myself, "This is it, I'm not doing another tank. Here I am now, itching to do another tank and it's DONE! This second tank is serving three purposes for me really. One, it's providing a 'nightlite' for my three year old daughter who's dealing with the 'darkness' issue right now. second, it's a spawning tank for my Perculas... and third, it's helping me to learn how tokeep a tank chemically balanced in a more timely fashion. I've read that with a smaller tank such as a 10g, there is less room for error. So, you have to be on your game when it comes to checking levels. The smaller tank is helping me to understand what's needed in order to keep my larger tank thriving. Who would've ever thought. I promise to post new pics soon. I took a whole bunch but guess what? Me and the Advantix didn't get along!
