Go with either T5 or VHO, no reason to waste your hard earned money on MH, unless sps is in your future. JMHO
Hey everyone I might be getting either a 72 gallon 48x18x21 or a 65 48x18x17 from a friend I am wondering what would be a good light choice for either one of them. I am looking to keep mostly zoos mushrooms and maybe a few lps any help would be great

Charlie is giving some budget friendly suggestion. But I dont agree MH being a waste at all.
You can get a cheap hood from Odysea ...48" puts out roughly 700watts.
the 36" puts out 443watts. and they are pretty cheap.
Disclaimer: Odysea is a chinese product...ive read horror stories on them.
Personally Mine work great.
I paid 300bucks for the 36" hood.
With tanks that shallow, I would go with a 6 bulb T5 set up with individual reflectors. You should pretty much be able to keep anythig you want with the right buld configuration. And a lot less heat and energy.

Aquarium Lighting for Reef Systems: Current Nova Extreme Pro Saltwater T-5 Fixtures
the nova extreme pro is an excellent light i myself have the 36 inch model and love it.
what about vho does anyone have some exp with them would they be enough for a 90 at 24 deep
I think with what you want to grow, they would be fine. You would need at least 4. I personally think your best option is T5 tho, that would give you something for the future also. I wasn't giving the "budget friendly" suggestion before, many people are doing fine with T5, sps, lps and softies. Just do a little searching thru this forum and you will find that to be true.
