I agree completely, I would also add that same capacity is affected depending upon the condition of the rock when one aquires it.

I won't argue.I would have to argue with you Charlie, the lbs/gal is not necessarily outdated its is however a general guideline for one to follow. So while it isnt an accurate measurement of a tanks filtration capacity it does however serve a purpose for the novice.
I will just say 50 lbs. of Pukani rock has a better filtration capacity than 50 lbs. of Forida rock, because it is way more porous. Saying that, it depends on what TYPE of rock you purchase.

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments about my tank looking clean, but something happened the other day, and i have dirty brown algea all over....Im thinking it's just a phase, but im also thinking i need a good protein skiimer..I looked on ebay and i seen a few,, any of guys have any suggestions ? I haven't done any big tests yet, but i just did a water change, i hope it helps...One other thing is my Yellow tang doesn't look right, his eyes look swallon, and he has some white dots on him. My Tomato clown sure loves him tho, they are side by side all the time...P.S the clown has some discolour in his black...
What is your suorce water? I would have tested water as soon as things didnt look right. It took my 90 gal, three months to finish the cycle. If I read this right that is the age of your tank? Get a romora skimer, TEST WATER, dont worry so much about the amount of rock yet. Dang I wish I had the flame angel, sorry to hear that. That is one of my favorites! I agree with Charlie, get rid of glass top
